Taliban administration to follow Pakistan’s lead to appoint ambassador to Kabul as bilateral tensions ease. Afghanistan has embraced an upgrade of diplomatic relations with Pakistan, marking a relaxation of bilateral tensions between the South Asian neighbours.

Afghanistan has embraced an improvement in its diplomatic relations with Pakistan as a sign of easing tension between South Asian neighbors.
Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Friday announced the charge d’affaires in the Afghan capital of Kabul would be upgraded to the level of ambassador, and Afghanistan’s Taliban regime then announced its mission in Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad would be upgraded as well.
A charge d’affaires is an embassy’s chief of mission when the ambassador is not present. This rise in diplomatic presence between Afghanistan [and] Pakistan opens the door to greater bilateral collaboration on various fronts,” the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted on X on Saturday.
Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi will travel to Pakistan “in the coming days”, ministry spokesman Zia Ahmad Takal said. Few nations – among them China – have committed to hosting Taliban government ambassadors since regaining power in 2021, with no nation yet officially recognizing the government.
