Reports indicate that some of the hundreds of detainees taken by Israeli forces during the recent raid on Kamal Adwan Hospital have been released. However, the fate of the hospital’s director, Hussam Abu Safia, remains unknown, said the Gaza Health Ministry.
Survivors of the raid claim a range of brutalizing behaviors, including being pounded in the head, spat upon, stripped naked and made to stand naked before extremely cold temperatures for extended hours as they are held and interrogated. Observing accounts from eye-witnesses, the locals themselves describe the attack as “barbaric.”
A devastating fire, which originated from direct attacks by the Israeli forces, has burned across most wards of Kamal Adwan Hospital. The fire has caused great damage and worsened conditions in Gaza, which had already reached a very sad state. The World Health Organization condemned the acts and termed the systematic dismantling of Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure a “death sentence for tens of thousands of Palestinians.”
The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has issued an urgent call for the “immediate flow” of humanitarian aid as reports of infants dying from freezing temperatures in Gaza start coming in.
Since the start of the hostilities on October 7, 2023, the war has killed at least 45,484 Palestinians and wounded over 108,090. On that day, Hamas-led attacks killed at least 1,139 people in Israel, with over 200 taken captive.
