Mossad, the Israeli intelligence service agency, reportedly subcontracted Iranian security personnel to place a bomb in a Tehran guesthouse in which Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was residing, The Telegraph revealed on Saturday.
The first strategy was to eliminate Haniyeh during his trip to Iran in May for the funeral of the former Leader of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi.
But to its chagrin, the UK newspaper said the operation was aborted over apprehension of a large turnout, and the probability of the incantation not working will be failure. Still, two agents went ahead with the laying of explosives in three rooms of the guesthouse, which is used often by the IRGC.
Patrolling workers pointed at the cinema house and said the agents were captured on the CCTV cameras moving in and out of the building very fast. After getting out of the territory of Iran, they decided to explode the explosives and caused the death of Haniyeh.
An IRGC official who spoke to the paper said, “They are not even sure that Mossad hired a unit from the Ansar al-Mahdi IRGC protection unit where Ahmadreza Shokri Pour worked.” “When they then searched further, they found other explosive items in two other rooms,” they said.
Despite it having happened a long time ago, it has been awkward for Iran and definitely brought lots of hatred into the country, as various officials described it as a severe security violation. Investigations are still underway internally, while the IRGC has threatened to take action against Israel.
Haniyeh was buried on Friday in Qatar after his assassination in Tehran, Iran, and his possible successor stated to the mourners; thus, there is no way this would dampen the zeal of the Palestinian militant allied group against Israel.
