The former Everton and Chelsea manager was charged with not paying 1m euros (£830,000) in tax on his wages during his initial tenure at Real Madrid between 2013 and 2015.
He will not go to prison but must pay a fine of 386,361.93 euros (£333,045.92). Ancelotti, aged 66, quit a second stint with Real last term and joined the Brazil job.
According to Spanish law, any prison sentence shorter than two years for a non-violent offence seldom requires a first-time defendant to spend time in jail. This year, Ancelotti testified in court that he “never thought of committing fraud”.
Ancelotti added he was proposed a net salary of 6m euros (£5.1m) by Real and left it up to his financial advisers to arrange the terms. I believed it was very common because at that moment all the players and the former coach had done the same,” he explained.
Ancelotti repaid the debt in full in December 2021. Lionel Messi, who was at the time playing for Barcelona, received an original 21-month prison sentence in 2017, but this was later reduced to a fine of 252,000 euros without a jail term. Real forward Cristiano Ronaldo took an 18.8m euro fine in 2019.
Jose Mourinho, another Chelsea manager, was fined 2.2 million euros for tax allegations while working as Real manager between 2011 and 12.
