The AAP chief and the Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, approached the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday for bail in the Delhi excise policy case after his application was rejected by the Supreme Court registry.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday approached the Rouse Avenue Court to secure bail in the Delhi Excise Policy case after being rejected by the Supreme Court registry. The top court had released Kejriwal on interim bail for the Lok Sabha election campaign and had ordered him to return to the Tihar Jail on June 2.
The matter is listed for consideration at 2:00 PM by the special judge of Rouse Avenue Courts. Kejriwal has requested regular bail before the court.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court’s registry dismissed Kejriwal’s plea for an extension of his interim bail for seven days for a medical examination. The top court’s registry refused to entertain the application, stating that since Kejriwal has been granted freedom to apply for bail before the trial court, the present application is not maintainable.
On Tuesday, a vacation bench of the Supreme Court declined to expeditiously fix Arvind Kejriwal’s petition for consideration of seven more days of interim bail and asked his counsel to place the matter before CJI DY Chandra Hud. The Delhi CM’s counsel, Abhishek Manu Sanghvi, urged for a special hearing before the apex court’s vacation bench, comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and KV Viswanathan.
The bench, however, dismissed the reference to the application, stating that the matter had been heard and that the judgment had been reserved by another bench of the apex court.
Singhji was asked by the bench to place the matter before the Chief Justice of India, DY Chandra Hud, for an appropriate order.
On Monday, the Aam Aadmi Party stated that Kejriwal has moved the Supreme Court for an extension of the interim bail by another seven days for his medical checkup.
