Assassins plead guilty in killing of Canadian Sikh figure

In a Canadian court, the killers of Sikh businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik, who was acquitted of the 1985 bombing of an Air India flight, pleaded guilty in court.

The two hitmen, Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez, pleaded to second-degree murder in 2022. Reports say that the two men pleaded their pleas in Canada’s BritishTwo men plead guilty in killing of Sikh businessman Ripudaman Malik Columbia Supreme Court on the eve of their first-degree murder trial.

The sheriffs had to break up a two-person scuffle wherein they were punching and clawing at each other. The officers forced the brawling pair to the ground, handcuffed them, and made off with the pair.

According to the report, they are set to be sentenced on October 31. Their second-degree guilty plea guarantees them life sentences.

However, Canadian public broadcaster CBC reports that it is not known how long they will have to serve before they are eligible for parole.

The two hitmen, so far as the agreed statement of facts released on Monday (October 21), were hired to kill Malik. However, the evidence could not establish who had hired them.

Ripudaman Singh Malik, a Sikh businessman, was shot dead outside his family business in Surrey, British Columbia, on the morning of July 14, 2022.

Malik was one of the two men acquitted in 2005 of a devastating double bomb attack, one of Canada’s worst terrorist attacks.
