Attack on Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar: One dead

The Bangladesh Air Force was conducting necessary action in retaliation, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated. One individual was killed in the violence that occurred at the Bangladesh Air Force base in Cox’s Bazar on Monday, local media reports stated.

In a notification issued by the nation’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the air force base was targeted by a group of miscreants, the Dhaka Tribune stated. The notice, issued by ISPR assistant director Ayesha Siddiqua, stated the Bangladesh Air Force was taking appropriate action in retaliation.

But The Business Standard said, the incident happened because of an airport expansion project involving the relocation of residents in the area, which was opposed by the locals. Alleged videos of the violence went viral on social media with the reports that unknown miscreants stormed the base in Samiti Par.

Cox’s Bazar deputy commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin informed The Business Standard that a person died in the attack. One individual has been killed and some others were injured in the incident,” he informed The Business Standard. “The reason behind the clash will be probed through talks with both sides, and appropriate actions will be taken.”

The victim has been identified by his family members as Shihab Kabir Nahid (25) from Samitipara, Daily Star Bangladesh reported. Resident medical officer of Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, Sabuktagin Mahmud Shohel, told the daily that a person aged around 25 was “brought dead” to the hospital.

Shohel said the victim had suffered deep injuries at the back of his head and added that the reason behind his death would be ascertained after autopsy, according to The Daily Star report. The bloodshed occurred just hours after Bangladesh’s home affairs adviser, retired Lieutenant General M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, at a dawn news conference reiterated the interim administration’s pledge to ensure law and order, reports PTI.

He informed the media at his house in Dhaka around 3 am on Monday that “cohorts” of the former Awami League regime of removed prime minister Sheikh Hasina were intent on destabilising the nation, but “in no way they will be spared.
