Australia expels Indian spies for attempting to steal defence secrets

The Australian media has reported that two Indian spies were kicked out of Australia in 2020 for their alleged activity in obtaining sensitive defence project data and airport security secrets 30 April of that year.

Whilst The Australian& The Sydney Morning Mrld (SMH) was confined to the expulsion of two spies, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation(ABO) did not mention the number. Authorities of India did not respond to those reports, at least not yet.

According to an ABC report, Indian spies, codenamed Amenuvve, were caught engaging in misconduct and trying to collect confidential information related to Australia’s business ties. The Australian Security Intelligence Organisation (ASIO) concluded an espionage case in 2020, which was said to have operated through a rival/dual state agent associated with the Indian community in Australia and political figures.

The mentioned information comes after the latest investigations by The Washington Post, in which an Indian RAW officer was found to have planned a plot to kill a Sikh extremist, Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, on United States soil at the culmination of the previous year. The report claimed that the most successful RAW officers were expelled from Australia in 2020.

The ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess used this year’s annual threat assessment speech to deliver a sub-messaging about the divide, which did not mention the country. The disinformation campaign was aggressive, and the spies allegedly devised targeted ties with politicians, an embassy, and a state police service.

The attempt was also to get their hands on secret economic information related to Australia’s trade relations. “Advanced Agent” in the news reported that an Australian security clearance holder has been recruited as a spy of a foreign country, and this blogger has access to the most sensitive defence technology details, according to Burgess.
