An Australian YouTuber recently provoked social media outrage after criticizing Indian food, calling the spices ‘dirt spices. ’ Sydney Watson’s comments elicited angry responses from users who stood up to defend Indian cuisine, detailing the richness of its culture and history.
The controversy started when an X associated with the platform posted a message saying, “Indian food is the best on earth,” while posting a colorful picture of several curry meals and rice.
But when Watson continued her remarks, which touched on insulting the food, her response was simply vicious – “It isn’t.
“Her words only intensified, “If your food requires you to put dirt and spices all over it to make you like its taste, then such food is not good. ”She also said they all taste like burning, and those who have a thing for Indian food are probably masochists.
Such remarks were not welcomed on the social media platform by the people, who were quick to defend Indian cuisine. One user mentioned Roman usage of spices from India with a message stating that of all spices in the world, Indian spices contribute the most.
One user also used humor to respond to Watson’s criticism, pointing at such Australian specialties as “pineapple beetroot hamburger” and “vegemite on toast.”
Various Indian foods are still breaking the market globally. In the current year, four dishes have been listed in the Taste Atlas, 100 best dishes globally. However, Butter Garlic Naan got the highest score and ranked 7, Murgh Makhani (Butter Chicken) ranked 43, TIKKI ranked 47, and Tandoori Chicken ranked 48.
