Joe Biden acknowledged that the deal would take effect after his departure and admitted that his administration had consulted with Donald Trump’s incoming administration.
US President Joe Biden dismissed a reporter’s question regarding who would earn the credit for the Israel-Hamas ceasefire agreement. A journalist asked Joe Biden whether he or US President-elect Trump would receive the accolades for this deal, which spells the end of the 15-month Gaza war. To the question, he quipped, “Is that a joke?”
However, Biden admitted that the deal would be implemented once he was gone and that his team had been working with Donald. This is at a time when Donald Trump is claiming credit for himself, stating that the deal would not have happened without his November election victory.
Joe Biden said, “I’d also note that this deal was developed and negotiated under my administration, but its terms will be implemented mostly by the next administration. We’ve been speaking as one team these past few days.”
Underlining that the deal is the same framework of a deal his administration helped negotiate in May, Joe Biden said that Israel has been able to weaken Hamas with the help of aid from the US.
I knew this deal had to be executed by the next team, so I instructed my team to engage closely with the incoming team, ensuring that everyone was saying essentially the same thing, which, after all, is what America’s presidents do, he said”.
