Biden tests positive for COVID-19 amid pressure to reconsider 2024 Bid

As a major event/important development, the US President, Joe Biden, contracted the COVID-19 virus and had to postpone a rally in Las Vegas. This diagnosis is given when there is increasing pressure on the president to change his mind about running for a second term, mainly because of his age and health complications.

Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House Press Secretary, said that Biden tested positive for the virus, but the 81-year-old is only showing mild symptoms of the virus. Afterwards, he isolates himself in his Delaware beach house while working. As previously reported earlier on Wednesday, the president’s attending physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, has authorized Paxlovid, an antiviral medication, and Biden has begun using it.

Sadly, Biden has contracted the illness at a really bad time since people continue to question his health and fitness to rule. About Biden’s health issue, the Democrats leaders have expressed their concerns, and according to some sources, the Senate Majority Leader, Chuck Schumer, and the House Democratic Caucus Chair, Hakeem Jeffries, though explained their perception that Biden should not run for the presidency again.

Schiff, who is among at least 20 Democratic lawmakers to urge Biden to quit the presidential race openly, has said it is now time for Biden to leave so that the Democratic party can ‘win with the torch’ from Trump.

We can add political instability. A recent poll by the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research shows that sixty per cent of Democrats say Biden should quit the race, and only thirty per cent are confident in his cognitive fitness to perform the duties of president efficiently.

Nevertheless, Biden has stood his ground and, when once interviewed, threatened that only the Almighty could force him out. However, the White House plans to ‘’provide the much-needed overview of the president’s health’’ as critics have pointed out that the president’s health is being concealed.

As this development unfolds in the country, the Biden campaign team must balance the president’s health, his own political ambitions for a second term, and the public’s expectations. As the 2024 election approaches, the Democratic party and the country’s leadership rest on the balance.
