Bidens host final Halloween event at the White House

The Bidens hosted their last Halloween trick-or-treat at the White House, where First Lady Jill Biden was dressed as a giant panda. However, President Joe Biden stole the show when he teased a lick on a baby’s leg dressed as a chicken.

Some 8,000 invited guests, including students and military members’ children, were there on Oct. 30, which made the function a bit bittersweet as Joe Biden prepares to leave office in January.

In one lighthearted moment captured on video, the President bends down to greet the baby and playfully poses as though biting the child’s leg; the baby giggles at this, and others do, too. The child is not put off, and the mother chats amiably.

Jill Biden’s panda dress was a playful reference to the pandas who finally came to the National Zoo in mid-October. She added an educational element to the night’s activities, labeling the event ‘Hallo-Read’ to instill a love of reading in children. A former teacher for 40 years, she launched the night’s activities by reading a short story about spooky pumpkins to a group of enthusiastic kids.

Later, at sunset, the President and First Lady came out onto the driveway and spent about an hour dispensing treats. Dressed in a suit and tie, Biden placed boxes of White House Hershey’s Kisses into children’s tote bags as Jill distributed copies of 10 Spooky Pumpkins.

The South Lawn was festively decorated with a big orange moon and a banner that read, ‘Hallo-Read at the White House.’ The setting was complete with cardboard cutouts of Willow, their family cat, leaning against stacks of books and giant pumpkin decorations flanking the entrance.
