Bizarre punishments at Chinese firms: Employees forced to eat chilies

Chinese companies became viral for their toxic work culture, where employees were forced to lie on the floor to greet their boss and eat ‘death chilies’ as punishment.

These companies in China might be the most toxic workplaces you’ve ever heard of. Two Chinese companies have made headlines for their absurd work culture and poor office environment after reports claimed their employees were made to ‘respect’ their boss by lying down on the floor and forced to eat ‘death chilies’ if they failed their tasks.

One firm, located in Guangzhou, China, has been said to force its employees to perform strange rituals at the workplace. Instead of saying “Good Morning” or “Hello” to their boss, the company has requested that its employees lie on the ground to welcome their superiors. They were also instructed to chant slogans praising the boss and the company to show that they value work above everything else.

The reports cite the workers as being forced to yell: “Qiming branch welcomes Boss Huang! Qiming branch, whether in life or death, we will not fail our work mission,” if they wanted to continue their work and perform their company’s rituals.
