Brampton temple suspends priest over violent rhetoric.

A Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada, has suspended a priest over violent rhetoric on recent clashes between Khalistani flag-carrying protesters and people in the area.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Nov. 5, the Hindu Sabha temple named the priest Rajinder Prasad. “Due to Prasad’s controversial involvement with the non-permitted protesters at the Hindu Sabha premises on November 3, the temple is suspending him with immediate effect,” the statement said.

According to a PTI report Thursday, demonstrators were holding banners in support of Khalistan during the November 3 protest at the Hindu Sabha temple, as seen in various unverified videos on social media.

PTI said the videos showed fistfights and people hitting each other with sticks on what looked like the temple lawns. The protesters had disrupted a consular event jointly organised by the Hindu Sabha and the Indian consulate.

Violence erupted at the temple after supporters of Khalistani group Sikhs for Justice held the protest during the visit of Indian consular officials to the site.

“This is helpful leadership. The overwhelming majority of Sikh Canadians and Hindu Canadians want to live in harmony and don’t condone violence. Hindu Sabha Mandir President Madhusudan Lama has suspended the pundit who spread violent rhetoric,” said Brown.

“Remember, we all have more in common than what divides us. We can’t let the agitators fuel the flames of division in tense times. The leadership of both Sikh and Hindu communities in the GTA do not want this division, hate and violence,” added Brown.
