New investigations indicate that negotiations to end the fighting between Israel and Hamas have resumed, with Egypt and Qatar as mediators and the US being directly involved.
The decision came after the head of the Mossad intelligence agency in Israel met the director of the CIA and the premier of Qatar, which has been instrumental in the process of brokering peace talks.
“As a result of the meeting, it was agreed that in the next week, it will be launched the negotiations based on new initiatives headed by the mediators – Egypt and Qatar with active participation of the USA,”
The source, who asked to remain anonymous, given the subject of the discussion.
The move comes after earlier attempts to negotiate a truce and free more than 120 hostages that Hamas had kidnapped during the October 7th raid on southern Israel had failed. Each party has accused the other of being responsible for the stalemate: Israel is not ready to agree to the demand of Hamas to stop the war. In contrast, Palestinians have demanded the release of Palestinian prisoners.
The present war initiated by the Hamas attack on October 7th has exceeded seven months and caused significant damage in the Gaza Strip. With the eyes of the world turned to the region, the chance of a positive outcome to the ceasefire negotiations has brought fresh hope of a peaceful solution to the seven-year conflict.
