Israeli soldiers shoot Palestinians who attempt to obtain water in Gaza’s centre, killing children, as they persistently target homes. At least 10 Palestinians have been shot dead at a water collection point in the centre of Gaza, six of them children, as famine widens in the blockaded enclave and food and water supplies remain critically low.
At least 59 Palestinians were killed on Sunday by Israeli troops, 28 of them in Gaza City, after they attacked residential neighbourhoods and displacement camps throughout Gaza, medical and local sources reported to Al Jazeera.
At least 10 Palestinians have been killed at a water collection point in central Gaza, six of them children, as famine expands throughout the besieged enclave and food and water supplies are at critically low levels.
Israeli troops on Sunday shot and killed at least 59 Palestinians, 28 of whom were in Gaza City, as they struck residential neighbourhoods and displacement camps throughout Gaza, local and medical sources informed Al Jazeera.
Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud, in Gaza City, stated there is a crisis of water throughout the Gaza Strip. Although water is not safe to drink since most of the time it’s polluted, thirst is forcing individuals to these places,” he said, of Nuseirat.
“It’s not the first time this has happened. This is almost 10 times and just within the past few months, when individuals were targeted directly and intentionally as they were attempting to access water.
Israel’s constant shelling of Gaza killed at least 110 Palestinians on Saturday, 34 of them waiting for a meal at the Israeli- and United States-funded Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) relief distribution centre in Rafah.
Mahmoud reported that nearly 800 Palestinians were killed since the GHF started handing out food parcels in Gaza at the close of May under its “monopoly of humanitarian aid distribution” at the expense of other effective, better-organised and reliable organisations, such as the United Nations.
An individual can bring a food box for his or her family, but this is not even sufficient to feed starving children and starving family members, and that’s the tragedy,” he added.
“Individuals are compelled to undertake these perilous journeys from northern Gaza, from Gaza City, to the city of Rafah. They travel 12 to 15km [7.5 to 9 miles] on foot, and it takes them an entire day.
Some do that at night, sleeping inside bombed-out buildings, to get there as early as possible. Despite all of these efforts to get there as early as possible, they are met with live ammunition and deliberate shooting by Israeli forces.”
