Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said on December 18 that China is ready to work with India on core interests and major concerns of both countries. This comes ahead of a crucial meeting between Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing to iron out peace management along the Line of Actual Control.
The ambassador showed China’s commitment to working with India in the implementation of key agreements made by the leaders of both countries, emphasizing mutual respect, dialogue, and communication to promote trust.
“China is ready to work with India to implement the important common understandings between the leaders of China and India, respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, strengthen mutual trust through dialogue and communication, properly settle differences with sincerity and good faith, and bring bilateral relations back to the track of stable and healthy development as soon as possible,” he wrote in a post on X.
During the meeting between Doval and Wang Yi, the two sides looked for ways to restore relations between New Delhi and Beijing. Relations have been under a chill for more than four years since the military stand-off in eastern Ladakh. Doval, the National Security Adviser of India, arrived in China on Tuesday to attend the 23rd round of Special Representatives’ talks, marking the first such meeting in five years. The last round took place in 2019.
The standoff along the India-China border started in 2020 with the result of Chinese military actions in eastern Ladakh; it has become a protracted one and has already taken a serious toll on bilateral relations.
