Chinese executive sentenced to death for gaming company founder’s murder

Former Chinese executive Xu Yao has been sentenced to death for the murder of gaming company founder Lin Qi. Xu Yao poisoned Lin Qi’s food in December 2020 due to a professional dispute, according to reports.

Lin Qi founded Yoozoo, which holds the film rights to “The Three-Body Problem,” and developed the game “Game of Thrones: Winter Is Coming.” Four others were seriously ill but survived after Xu Yao poisoned their beverages in the office. Lin Qi’s health initially seemed stable, but he passed away nine days later despite receiving 40 liters of blood transfusions.

The incident has shaken China’s technology and gaming industries, causing widespread impact and raising concerns about workplace safety and conflict resolution methods. Xu Yao’s sentencing highlights the grave consequences that can arise from escalated disputes and emphasizes the need for peaceful resolutions.
