British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has, for instance, condemned in anger a current ignoble practice within the Conservative Party in which some party figures have allegedly engaged in betting on the time of the next anticipated General Election in the United Kingdom.
The row emerged after the Conservatives Campaign Director, Mr Tony Lee, resigned when there were reports that he and his wife, a Tory candidate, were facing investigations by the Commission on Gambling.
Last week, another aspiring Conservative MP, Craig Williams, was also in the news over allegations of placing a bet of £100 on the election date before the announcement of the official date.
The scandal went to the next level when London police disclosed to had arrested one of the prime minister’s police security detail for allegedly betting on the election.
Sunak said that any people who have engaged in such misconduct would be immediately expelled from his party, stating that he would be very angry to learn of the allegations.
However, the prime minister condemned the senators’ actions and urged them to wait for the results of the ongoing investigations to proceed with the appropriate sanctions.
The betting scandal is the newest problem for the Conservatives, and the betting adds to a near two-year poll deficit and a severe possibility of a Historic Labour landslide in the next election.
