Islamabad court orders Imran Khan’s PTI office to be de-sealed.
Islamabad High Court on Tuesday directed authorities to de-seal the capital office of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, about two weeks after it was shut down by the Capital Development Authority (CDA). The CDA had raided and closed the PTI office on May 24 alleging it was constructed in violation of laws.
The party challenged the action in court, which reserved its verdict after hearing arguments from both sides on Monday. Announcing the judgment today, Justice Saman Rizvi ordered the CDA to undo the sealing.
The development comes a day after PTI chairman Imran Khan, who has been in jail since last year over multiple cases filed after his ousting in April 2022, was acquitted in three key cases, including the contentious ‘cipher’ matter.
The 71-year-old former premier, who also led his party to power in the 2018 elections, faces nearly 200 legal battles instituted after his removal.
The court order on reopening the PTI office is seen as providing relief to the party, which has alleged a systematic political vendetta by the current coalition government.
