Deadly airstrike hits Gaza refugee camp, death toll rises

A severe calamity occurred at the al-Mawasi refugee camp in Gaza, killing at least 90 people and leaving 300 others injured in a deadly Israeli air attack.

The Israeli army states that the strike was intended for the chief of Hamas armed wing, Mohammed Deif and that the planning of this destruction was inspired by that goal; however, Hamas was quick to dismiss this assertion as false and argued that the attack killed defenceless civilians.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that the fate of the Hamas top military Official Deif is not clear. Still, the attempt made on Deif’s life was a clear message from Israel to Hamas, which added exaggerated aggression to the already existing conflict.

Adding to the death toll further, Israeli forces targeted a group of worshippers at the Shati refugee camp in Gaza City who were offering prayer near the debris of a mosque that was earlier targeted; the attack led to the death of more than 20 people.

The cumulative count of casualties in armed confrontation waged by Israel on Gaza since October 7 has crossed 38,443, along with the number of injured as 88,481. At the same time, 1,139 Israelis have been killed while dozens of them are still held hostage in Gaza.

Thus, the recent upsurge in the ongoing hostility has caused serious indignation and protests from the global society; people demand the end of hostilities and the beginning of negotiations that can help eliminate the sources of conflict.
