A suicide bomber from Al-Shabaab targeted the beach with armed gunmen to conduct a mass shooting on one of the most crowded days at a beach in the capital city of Somalia, Mogadishu, resulting in the killing of 32 people and leaving many injured, according to the police on Saturday.

Over 32 noncombatants perished in this attack, with more than 63 others injured, some seriously, police spokeswoman Abdifactah Adan Hassan said during a press briefing.

“Setting people on target and detonating to eliminate 32 individuals from the non-combatant populace means these Kharijites are not going to limit their targets to government offices, military, and government personnel,” he said, using the term that Somerset officials use in referring to Al-Shabaab.

The attack, attributed to Al-Shabaab on an online forum supporting the Somali Islamist group, started by a suicide bomber who blew himself up and armed men who raided the area, police and eyewitnesses said.

Officer Mohamed Omar said they had shot civilians randomly at the scene, as narrated to AFP.

He stated security forces had stopped it and neutralized 5 gunmen; the sixth militant “exploded himself at the beach.”.
