Deadly bridge collapse in Northern China amid severe storms

This occurred when a highway bridge in the northern Chinese province of Shaanxi fell partially; this led to the death of at least 11 people and about 20 more missing.

This incident happened in Shangluo city on Friday night. At the same time, state media attributed the incident to a sudden downpour and flash floods, after which the victims were recovered from five vehicles that fell off the bridge.

The state broadcaster CCTV pinned the blame, saying that close to 20 vehicles and over 30 people were presumably lost after the bridge collapsed and sank into the river.

The detailed narrative reveals pathetic sights and sounds in the accident, as one of the drivers narrated that he was told by other drivers on the road to apprise him to apply the brake and stop his car before the sad incident.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged all to carry out all-out rescue and relief efforts to protect the lives and property of Chinese people due to this catastrophe. The downpour and flooding started on Tuesday and have been concentrated in northern and central provinces of China, mainly Shaanxi and Henan provinces.

The more rescue and recovery efforts persist, the more the country grieves for the victims and worries about the need to solve causes that resulted in this calamity and protect people from unfavorable climate change and other sudden occurrences.
