3 killed, 6 injured in clashes between Pak Rangers and protesters in PoK capital.
At least three people died while six others were wounded after security forces opened fire on demonstrators clashing with paramilitary Rangers in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir’s capital, Muzaffarabad.
As per reports, the violence erupted amid ongoing protests in the disputed region against inflated wheat flour prices and electricity bills. The 19-vehicle Rangers’ convoy, accompanied by five trucks, had been deployed to maintain law and order.
On their way out through Kohala instead of Brarkot village bordering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the procession faced rock pelting near Shorran da Nakka as tensions flared. This reportedly prompted the use of tear gas and bullets in response.
Entering the city via Western Bypass, they again encountered stone-throwing, which led to intense firing of tear shells and live ammunition, leaving the entire locality rattled.
Three protesters succumbed to injuries, while half a dozen suffered wounds in the firing, according to details. The clash comes as dissatisfaction escalates among locals over the rising cost of living and unemployment compounded by political ambiguities surrounding PoK’s status.
