Deadly Hajj: Hundreds Perish amid scorching temperatures

The report I have found is that diplomats say that at least 550 pilgrims died during this year’s hajj, which is an annual Islamic pilgrimage occurring in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The picture depicts the intensity of the spiritual exertions under the hot Egyptian sun and the hardships involved in the journey.

As the diplomats earlier informed the world, 323 of the victims were Egyptian who mainly gave in to the heat stroke. It also identified that 60 Jordanians were killed, a figure which was higher than the previous official death toll.

Hajj is one of the five fundamental principles of faith in the Islamic tradition, and it is obligatory for every able-bodied Muslim who has the necessary resources to perform the rite. However, with the study revealing that the effects of climate change are slowly disrupting the earth’s natural climate, the temperatures in the ritual areas of the pilgrimage are gradually rising.

The Royal Saudi Ministry of Health said that they had treated more than 2,000 pilgrims for heat-related ailments and age-related illnesses but did not declare the exact figures of deaths. A part of the deaths, the diplomats said, is due to the “irregular pilgrims” who do not receive the amenities that come with their air-conditioned facilities and support from the government.

During the calamity that befell the Hajj pilgrimage this year, the loss of so many lives demonstrates the current world’s situation when addressing the effects of climate change and increasing issues of hazards brought about by severe weather disturbances.
