Did pager explosion bring down Iran prez Raisi’s chopper?

Inside an old chopper former President Ebrahim Raisi was using, a pager reportedly exploded in May, causing it to crash into the woods as tensions between Israel and Hezbollah grew.

The theory reportedly surfaced last week after thousands of pagers belonging to Hezbollah fighters detonated across Lebanon, followed by a picture of Raisi with a device going viral.

Amidst increasing tensions between Israel and Hezbollah, an Iranian MP has now claimed that a pager detonated inside the helicopter of former Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, which then crashed in the woods in May.

The claims surfaced when two days of attacks on September 16 and 17 saw pagers and walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah members explode.

Israel is suspected of having conducted the attack, with 39 confirmed dead and more than 3,000 injured.

National Security Commission member of Parliament Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani, in comments to Iranian media outlet Didban Iran, said, “One possible scenario that can likely be envisaged regarding the recent deadly helicopter crash that led to the death of President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran is the explosion of his pager.”.

“Raisi used a pager, although the type of the pager he used might be different from the ones Hezbollah forces had. However, one of the likely scenarios regarding the chopper crash is the explosion of his pager,” he said.

He added that Tehran was involved in buying the pagers held by Hezbollah militants.
