Former US President Donald Trump is getting ready for a courtroom drama in which he will be charged with criminal intent for the hush money payments involving him. On a trial set to start on Monday, together with jury selection, Trump will not only struggle with the delicate matter of his presidential campaigns, but he will also have to justify himself against the accusations arising from the scheming of his campaign to cover up an adultery case that occurred during his run for the seat of the president in 2016.
The charges against Trump have centered around claims that Trump intentionally falsified internal documents to contain damaging stories that could potentially have dented his campaign.
The crux of the accuses revolves around funds passed to two women, actress Stormy Daniels and playboy model Karen McDougal, both of them alleged to have had extra-marital affairs with Trump. Moreover, he says the gossip media claimed a love scandal that possibly implicates the then-presidential campaign manager’s illegitimate child. Trump adamantly denies the story being circulated about it.
The trial is expected to be highly dramatic and possibly very revealing, especially through testimony delivered by Michael Cohen, Trump’s ex-lawyer and confidante who has turned into one of the key players. What drew attention to this situation was Cohen’s pled guilty to federal charges related to the flouting of campaign finance laws concerning these payments.
Unlike the prosecution, the Trump defense team will probably use legal ploys meant to disparage the repute of the witnesses against him, like Cohen, who are willing to testify, and Trump’s alleged mistresses.
The way, however, Trump has vehemently refuted all the accusations has been that he has been a victim of a political stifling process that has the purpose of running down his possible presidential career in 2024.
A standstill atmosphere permeates the globe in anticipation of a trial the likes of which have never been seen, where the previous president becomes the centerpiece of a legal battle with potential political consequences of a magnitude unseen even in all of American history.
