Donald Trump to join Fox News tele-town hall as Harris skips debate

Donald Trump, the former US president and current Republican nominee, announced on Monday that he would participate in a tele-town hall hosted by Fox News in September.

This comes shortly after Vice-President Kamala Harris’ campaign team confirmed that the Democratic nominee would not join a debate hosted by the US-based broadcaster, often perceived as supportive of the Republican Party.

Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that instead of participating in the scheduled September 4th debate, he would participate in a tele-town hall anchored by Sean Hannity for Fox News. The event is set to take place in Pennsylvania, with further details yet to be announced.

Trump expressed his lack of surprise at Harris’ decision not to engage in a debate on Fox News, claiming it would be challenging for her to defend her record. He criticized Harris, accusing her of inconsistent stances on various issues.

Harris’s campaign team confirmed that the vice president would participate in two presidential debates. Additionally, her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, is slated to join one vice-presidential debate.

The first presidential debate is scheduled for September 10, hosted by ABC News, with a second debate planned for October, though the exact date remains undecided. Harris’s campaign team indicated they might consider a discussion after the September 10 event.

Trump’s running mate, Republican Ohio Senator JD Vance, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are scheduled to debate on October 1.

Previously, Trump had agreed to two other proposed debates, including one initially planned to be hosted by Fox News and another by NBC News on September 25. Trump had engaged in a debate with Joe Biden in June, after which Biden stepped aside following a poor performance, paving the way for Harris to take center stage.
