Dubai International (DXB) experienced widespread disruptions as torrential rains and storms wreaked havoc on Tuesday. The world’s busiest airport for international passengers was forced to divert all inbound flights, while flights departing from Dubai continued as scheduled. The inclement weather conditions prompted airport authorities to issue a stern advisory, urging passengers to avoid unnecessary visits to the airport.
More than 500 flights, both arrivals and departures, were affected by diversions, delays, or cancellations due to the relentless rainfall and ongoing storms. The adverse weather conditions persisted into Wednesday, further exacerbating the situation. A significant number of flights to Dubai and India had to be canceled, causing inconvenience to travelers.
Road blockages and flooding compounded the challenges, preventing a considerable number of guests from reaching DXB for their departing flights. The airport authorities worked tirelessly to restore normal operations and provided refreshments to those stranded at the airport, whenever possible.
By the end of Tuesday, Dubai had received an astonishing 142 millimeters (5.59 inches) of rainfall within a span of 24 hours, surpassing the average annual precipitation of 94.7 millimeters (3.73 inches) at Dubai International Airport.
Passengers were advised to check their flight status directly with their respective airlines and allow ample additional travel time due to the persistent inclement weather conditions. The airport authorities, in collaboration with their partners, made concerted efforts to minimize inconvenience and restore regular operations. Further updates were provided through official channels to keep passengers informed.
