Escalating tensions: Israeli airstrikes hit Houthi-controlled port in Yemen

So, Israeli warplanes have attacked around Houthi-controlled Hudaydah Red Sea port in Yemen in response to a drone attack by the Iran-backed rebels, which killed a man in Tel Aviv and breached the Israeli anti-aircraft defenses.

The Israeli military said in a statement that the operation known as “Outstretched Arm” targeted locations around Yemen’s Hodeidah since, as the spokesman said, the port is ‘ an entryway for the Iran weapons to the Houthi terrorist regime and a main economic source for them. This operation makes the Israeli air force strike the farthest from the country’s border, showing the increased tensions in the region.

The operation was declared by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a video statement as sending a message to the enemies that there is no place in the world where the State of Israel will not strike amid indications that its long arm has arrived in Yemen, based on reports that Houthi rebels said that 3 people were killed and 87 injured with the rebel-run health ministry describing the injuries as severe burns.

Videos that aired on Yemen’s Houthi-controlled Al-Masirah television contained wounded civilians receiving therapy in hospitals; some dressed, others on stretchers in crowded rooms.

An eyewitness, in a statement to the broadcaster, supposed that the majority of the injured were the port workers. The city was ‘dark ’, with people on the streets, closed petrol stations, and queues.

The Houthi rebels have been launching drone and missile attacks on Israel in the past couple of months, citing solidarity with the Palestinian people, and have threatened to continue with the attacks until a truce is fettered in the Gaza Strip. However, these attacks have not inflicted huge carnage in Israel as most of the projectiles either do not get through or are intercepted by the Iron Dome.

The new attacks are more recent and involve Israel, whose military asserts that Houthi terrorist attacks are sponsored and led by Iran against sea freedom in the area, regional ports, the Suez Canal, and global commerce in general.

The situation in the region has escalated, and there is still a possibility for the parties to take more escalated actions against each other.
