Escalating tensions: Israeli drone strikes kill two in Lebanon

More to worry about drone strikes by Israel have been said to have claimed two lives in the south of Lebanon, making the tensions between the two neighbors rise a notch higher. The strikes follow a rocket attack, which Israel said was an attempted attack that killed 12 children and youths on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, worsening tensions in the region.

Lebanese state media said one of the strikes targeted a motorcycle close to the border, killing both riders, and a child was injured. Another attack was carried out in southern Lebanon; two more were wounded.

Israel’s armed forces confirmed that it launched the attacks but said that it was aiming at Hezbollah terrorists and their assets. Hezbollah said it has not carried out the rocket attack on Sunday, though Israel accuses the Lebanese militant group of the attack.

As a result, Israel’s security cabinet has approved the response, with ‘anonymous insiders’ hinting at a ‘relatively large but proportionate’ strike on the infrastructure or Hezbollah’s arms caches.

The situation has also raised some concerns in Beirut since Hezbollah and its allies have pulled out some of their posts due to possible Israeli retaliation. There was disorderliness in the Beirut airport situation as different airlines proceeded to cancel flights, and passengers formed a line outside.

Speaking of the two parties, Israel on one side and Hezbollah on the other, they do not wish to embark on a full-scale war because the outcome is hard to predict and may possibly pull in Iran from Lebanon. The international world will continue to observe the events to avoid further escalation.
