Escalating violence in Gaza: Civilians flee as Israel bombs UNRWA

With the situation in Gaza worsening, the Israeli army has demanded all Palestinians in the territory vacate Gaza City. This comes a day after the Israeli raid on a school housing refugees in Khan Younis that led to the death of 27 people and injuries of 53.

Things have worsened, where four schools were targeted in four consecutive days, and thousands of Palestinians were forced to evacuate Khan Younis and Gaza City. Further, at least three strategic hospitals in northern Gaza have been closed down due to the attack.

These changes occur as a new round of cease-fire negotiations for the Gaza conflict will start in Qatar on Wednesday, succeeding the discussions in Egypt.

Speaking in a press briefing on Monday, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said that Hamas militant’s losses hit 60 percent of their forces since October 7. However, the danger posed to the civilians remains high and significant; of the total number of people killed since that date in the operation conducted by Israel on Gaza, 38,295 have been killed, and 88,241 others wounded.

The attack that Hamas led on the 7th of October has cost nearly 1,139 lives in the Israel nation, and there are still dozens of people who are forcefully captivated in the Gaza Strip, revealing the human side of the conflict.

While the global actors are experiencing a starker rise in the level of hostility, the conditions internal in the Gaza Strip are quite gruesome, especially for the Palestinians who continue to be caught in the crossfire and the hope for a sustainable peace on the horizon not within sight.
