Escalating violence in Gaza: Latest attacks and casualties

Israeli airstrikes continue to wreak havoc across the Gaza Strip, targeting homes and schools and resulting in numerous casualties. This escalation comes just a day after a devastating attack in the Nuseirat camp claimed the lives of dozens, including many from the al-Sheikh Ali family.

On Saturday, dawn raids killed four members of the Saadallah family in Jabalia, two people in a school northeast of Gaza City, and one person in a tent where he was seeking refuge south of Khan Younis, according to the Palestinian news agency Wafa. Seven others were killed in military strikes at Al-Majida Wasila School in the northern Al-Rimal neighborhood, the same agency reported.

A drone strike at the Jalaa Junction northwest of Gaza City killed a woman and left several injured. Another civilian was killed in an airstrike west of the Nuseirat camp, while five were injured in a drone attack on the Al-Mawasi area west of Rafah.

These strikes followed a particularly brutal day, where Israeli forces reportedly killed at least 36 people, leading to widespread outrage and condemnation. In northern Gaza, the situation has grown increasingly dire, with Israeli forces demolishing buildings and setting fire to numerous homes in and around Beit Lahiya, while also targeting Kamal Adwan Hospital.

Reports from Deir el-Balah stated that the hospital came under increased attack overnight, including the wounding of several medical staff and an ambulance catching fire. The military appeared to be making attempts to disable ambulances and put added pressure on the medical teams remaining in the hospital. The director of the intensive care unit of the hospital was among those killed in a drone strike last month.

Ongoing violence by Israel has been relentless with the grounds troops’ attacks for over 17 days, apart from Jabalia and Beit Lahiya to Beit Hanoon. Accusations include that a full-scale blockade by Israel is nothing short of the intent of displacement and ethnic cleansing in northern Gaza neighborhoods.

Muhannad Hadi, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator for the occupied Palestinian territory, underlined the rapidly deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Gaza. He remarked that recent strikes have caused dozens of deaths and many injuries, with women and children among the most affected. Such incidents serve as stark reminders of the immense human cost of the ongoing conflict.
