Fatal crash near King’s College London caused by drugged driver

Police arrested a 26-year-old motorist on suspicion of drug driving after he killed one and hurt two others. A woman was killed when a van ran into a small group of people near King’s College London on Tuesday, news agency Independent reported.

London Metropolitan Police stated that a second person is struggling to stay alive after being rushed to hospital and another got minor injuries. An eyewitness reported that the “van emerged from one of the side roads near the Indian embassy” while talking to broadcaster BBC.

Police have detained a 26-year-old on suspicion of drug driving following the crash that happened on the Strand in central London. They have stated that the incident is not being treated as terror-related. In a report by LBC News that quoted a witness, a few girls were struck.

“I’m waiting for my friends to come out, they sound pretty shaken but I don’t know what they saw,” the report quoted one of the witnesses as saying. The van appeared from one of the side streets near the Indian embassy and then at that point – I didn’t observe how or when – it rammed into the crowd,” King’s College London student Miles Damone, an eyewitness, described.

I just saw it appearing from there, took a hard turn and just smashed into the fence. It smashed into the side of the church,” he added. Police are on scene and responding to a collision near The Strand, WC2. Officers were summoned at 11.41 am on Tuesday, 18 March after a van and pedestrians collided. Three pedestrians were injured, and a woman in her twenties tragically was pronounced dead at the scene,” the Metropolitan Police released in a statement.
