Four killed, 18 injured in Birmingham mass shooting; Police seek multiple gunmen

4 killed, 18 injured in mass shooting in Birmingham.

At least four persons lost their lives and 18 others sustained injuries in a mass shooting incident in Birmingham city of Alabama late Saturday night.

As per initial investigations, multiple shooters opened fire on a group of people assembled in the Five Points South area, informed Birmingham Police Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Police found two men and a woman dead at the scene, while a third man breathed his last during treatment in hospital. Detectives are probing if gunmen walked up or drove by to shoot.

No arrests have been made so far. Investigators believe it to not be a random attack but an isolated case where many got caught in the crossfire over an intended target.

Federal agencies are working with local police to identify shooters and the intended target through footage and photos submitted on a web portal.

Witnesses cited automatic gunfire, as ‘Glock switches’ allowing semi-automatic pistols to fire fully automatic are a major issue, observed Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin.

Such devices serve no civil purpose and must be outlawed by the state, he demanded, as the city lacks the power to ban them.

America has recorded over 400 mass shootings this year according to a database, defining it as an incident with four or more shots.
