France faces far-right surge as national rally Dominates elections

While France headed to the polls on Sunday for an important election, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally (RN) party is expected to be the strongest party in a divided and paralyzed hung parliament.

Controversial snap polls, arranged by Emmanuel Macron, do not satisfy the populace; RN leads in the first-round vote. Even if the party may not win an outright majority, the situation that could arise where the parliament is hung and has large Eurosceptic, anti-immigration factions has given people reason to worry about the status of France and, specifically, the unity of the Western world.

To counter the RN’s victory, over 200 tactical alliances were made between the center and the lefties. However, according to the surveys, the RN will emerge as the single largest party, though it is likely to fall short of the 289 required for an absolute majority.

Pundits also point out that even if Macron succeeds in controlling the government, There will be Legislative deadlock affecting the “France voice on European and international stage.” Le Pen, who has attacked French elites, detects her best shot at securing the presidency in 2027.

The last few days of the campaign have witnessed a few RN scandals being reported, but the nation has not yet let out a sigh of relief waiting for the final result.
