Gaza ceasefire talks progress amid rising casualties

A Hamas delegation says that talks about a Gaza cease-fire are headed in the right direction after the group met last week with Qatar’s emir. As negotiations continue, people in Gaza face an emotional quagmire that is part optimistic and part very skeptical, teams on the ground report.

Meanwhile, medical sources have told Al Jazeera that airstrikes by Israel killed at least 24 Palestinians throughout Gaza since the early hours today. The current escalation is as Israel’s blockade on northern Gaza exceeds 100 days.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in tragic losses, as at least 46,584 Palestinians have lost their lives, and more than 109,731 have been injured since the outbreak of violence on October 7, 2023. On that day, Hamas-led attacks resulted in the deaths of at least 1,139 people in Israel, with more than 200 others taken captive, underlining the devastating toll the conflict has had on both sides.
