Gaza ceasefire talks resume amid ongoing violence

New efforts are expected to be followed to reach a truce between Israel and Hamas; both parties are appealing to middlemen over a captive swap deal.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also informed the President of the United States, Joe Biden, that Israel would send a delegation to discuss this proposal. However, the war would only be stopped after all the goals were accomplished. Hamas claimed it suggested new concepts to Qatari, Egyptian, and Turkish intermediaries regarding ceasefire and captive exchange.

It will be remembered that while these talks progress, hostilities flair up with Israel bombing more sites in Khan Younis, the second largest city in Gaza, leading to at least seven deaths. It is estimated that this conflict has taken about 37,700 lives in Gaza, which has seen more pressure from the International community for a ceasefire.

However, two differing versions of a UN-supported plan have caused the deadlock. Despite America siding with the proposal, Netanyahu has queried it, promising to carry on in the destruction of Hamas. Hamas wants any resolution of the push-and-pull that characterizes the relationship between the two sides to be conclusive.

However, there are rays of optimism, as recently Hamas has expressed willingness to resume negotiations with Qatari, Egyptian, and Turkish officials. Israel also appears to be weighing Hamas’ comments, thus giving an indication that the long-standing conflict could finally be solved.
