Gaza health ministry reports over 34,000 Palestinian deaths

Gaza’s health ministry has pointed out that over 34,000 Palestinians have been killed in the continuing war with Israel, which has been going on for nearly a year now. A 649-page list of the victims has been compiled with the names, ages, genders, and ID numbers of more than 80 percent, amounting to 34 344.

Also, the list includes 7,613 others whose bodies have been admitted to the hospitals and morgue unidentified, and thus, the Palestinian death toll is over 41,000. Among the list of deaths are 169 infants who died since October 7 due to the Hamas attack, a 98-year-old man born in 1922 who witnessed more than a century of conflict but failed to escape the conflict’s brutality.

The evaluation is given in an elaborate document that gives reports of more than 11,355 children losing their lives, and over 100 pages of the report focused on the victims that were below the age of 10 years. It is also worth pointing out that the first usage of the second adult name occurs on the 215th page, again drawing attention to the suffering of the population’s children the most.

Even though the list involves civilians and warriors, the main share of the victims is defined as non-combatants. However, the figures provided have been criticised by Israeli authorities, stating that the data provided by the Hamas government cannot be relied on.

Still, as this article stated, the conflicts that happened between 2009 and 2021 have proven that the health ministry casualty numbers and the United Nations tend to be quite similar. As Farhan Haq, a spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, mentioned in May, numbers of the ministry have been rather credible in prior mass casualty incidents in Gaza.
