Georgia court to weigh Fulton DA’s role in Trump Election probe

The Georgia Court of Appeals is slated to hear arguments in October on whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has a legal basis to disqualify her from prosecuting Trump for his alleged conspiracy to overturn the 2020 Presidential election in Georgia. This development will allow the trial to be moved past the November 5 election.

The question arises as to whether Willis’ extramarital affair and subsequent romantic involvement with a former high-ranking deputy of the LAPD, who was hired to work on the prosecution team, compromised the investigation. The affair has been leveraged by Trump’s legal team to try to stop the case, but the judge in the trial had earlier rejected Willis’s commission from the case.

The Georgia election interference case is among three criminal cases that Trump currently stands to be on trial for, even though all the cases have been set at various times. Last week, Trump was declared a criminal, for he has become the first ex-president of the United States of America to be convicted of a crime after a jury of New your City found him guilty of 34 counts of altering business records to conceal payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election.

An exact date when the Georgia appeals court will finalize Willis’s disqualification has yet to be set, but, as per AJC, the court hearing is set for 4 October.

Willis is also planning to appeal to the court to nullify the lower court’s decision, opting out of specific charges against Trump in the 2020 election subversion case because the indictment detail was insufficient.
