A summary of responses as the US enters Israel’s war and bombs three Iranian nuclear facilities following days of rumours of US intervention in the war. The United States has bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities, escalating the war between Israel and Iran further.
President Donald Trump late on Saturday declared the US strikes “destroyed” the Iranian sites in Fordow, Isfahan and Natanz as he promised additional strikes to destroy the country’s nuclear enrichment capability if Tehran “does not make peace”.
Iran confirmed the strikes, indicating its staff operating at the nuclear sites were removed ahead of the strikes. The US attacks occurred well over a week after Israel had begun a military campaign against Iran, which had responded with missile strikes, leading to hundreds of casualties on either side.
Following the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities are some of the major reactions across the globe: In his initial public statements following the attack, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi blamed the US for a violation of international law.
The United States, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has committed a serious breach of the UN Charter, international law and the NPT by invading Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities,” Araghchi wrote in a social media statement.
The actions today [Sunday] are outrageous and will carry eternal repercussions. All and every member of the UN should be outraged about this highly perilous, lawless and criminal conduct.” He further stated that Iran “reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.”.
