Hamas alleges Israeli backtracking on Gaza ceasefire negotiations

Israel has been blamed by Hamas for violating a truce deal and failing to carry out the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. The accusation follows as Israeli negotiators are due to conduct talks on extending the possibility on Monday, March 10 in Qatar.

In a statement, Hamas said, “The (Israeli) occupation continues to retreat from the agreement and refuses to start the second stage, exposing its intentions of evasion and delay.”

The Palestinian militant organization emphasized its willingness to show “flexibility” in the ceasefire negotiations, including mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States. Hamas is optimistic about productive outcomes from these talks, demonstrating its willingness to engage constructively. We reacted in a flexible way to efforts by mediators and Trump’s envoy, and we look forward to the result of the next talks and push [Israel] to agree and move on to the second stage,” the group said, as quoted by The Times of Israel.

The main topics of the talks are a truce, Israeli forces’ withdrawal from Gaza, and reconstruction of the battered Palestinian enclaves.

On the Israeli side, a delegation will depart for Doha where the subsequent round of talks will aim at reissuing the Gaza truce.
