On Monday, Hamas hailed the return of the residents of northern Gaza – for the first time in more than 15 months of conflict – as a great victory against all attempts at the forced displacement of the Palestinians.
“The return of the displaced is a victory for our people and signals the failure of plans for occupation and displacement,” said the group, as thousands of Gazans began a move northward, following Israel’s lifting of restrictions on their passage.
A similar view came from Islamic Jihad, of course-an organization very close to Hamas: it labeled the movement as a “response to all those who want to displace our people.” The situation reflects the ongoing tensions and the complexities surrounding the humanitarian crisis in the region.
