Hamas Leader’s Demise in Upscale Tehran Neighborhood

Ismail Hanienh, the head of Hamas’ political bureau, and another man described as a bodyguard were reported to have been killed in the attack that the group described as a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran.

Even over the several months that Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas chief, was awaiting death, his chances have not run out whether he wanted them to or not.

Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh waited for death for more than two months. In what can be described as an assassination attempt, a bomb was hidden in the guest house in Iran, where he was expected to sleep, according to The New York Times, quoting several officials in the US and in the Middle East.

Late February it was buried in a house in a posh neighborhood of Tehran within the guesthouse in the custody of the IRGC. Actually, the guesthouse was situated in the grounds owned by the IRGC, and the latter utilized it for holding their clandestine sessions and accommodating the significant visitors.

The wait, though, was long but was completely worth it.

Haniyeh, one of the chief Hamas negotiators and head of the political bureau, which had been based in Qatar, was among those in Tehran to witness the inauguration of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.

As Tuesday morning revealed, he was in his room in the guesthouse while the assassins triggered the bomb, NYT said. It caused the building to shake. The wall broke off and made a hole of that dimension. Windows were shattered.

A bodyguard and Haniyeh were killed in the attack, which Hamas described as a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran. The Palestinian group that fought to the death over the Gaza campaign issued by Israel described it as a “tangible escalation” and implicated the country in the assassination.

The assassination of the Hamas chief was dangerous because relations on how to bring and end the war were on the verge of being brought to a halt with an ensuing outbreak of more fighting.
