Hamas open to immediate ceasefire; Israel yet to propose

The Hamas official Basem Naim said that Hamas did not regret attacking Israel on October 7 and instead said that it is Israel that should “be guilty” of carrying out “big massacres” in Palestine.

Hamas on Friday said that it is ready for an “immediate ceasefire” but claimed that Israel has not put forth any “serious proposal” for a truce.

Speaking to Sky News, Hamas official Basem Naim said the earlier “well-defined, brokered deal” was forwarded in July this year.

“It was discussed in all details, and I think we were near a ceasefire … which can end this war, offer a permanent ceasefire and total withdrawal and prisoner exchange. Unfortunately, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu preferred to go the other way,” Naim said.

At the same time, the official urged US President-elect Donald Trump to push the Israeli government in a direction that would allow the two warring sides to reach an agreement.

“We call on the US administration and Trump to pressure the Israeli government to end the aggression,” he said. Throughout his campaign, Trump has vowed to bring peace to the region.

“Get it over with, and let’s get back to peace and stop killing people,” Trump said of the conflict in Gaza in an interview with conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt in April. The Republican leader also promised to end the conflict at the earliest in his victory speech.
