On September 15, 2019, Sunday, through its Arabic-language website, the jihadist Palestinian group Hamas endorsed Houthi rebels of Yemen after their missile strike on the heartland of Israel. In a statement, Hamas stressed it pointed that Israel could not obtain security until it ceased attacks in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas said that the missile strike was a reaction to Zionist aggression against our Palestinian people. The group maintained that Israel would not be safe unless it stopped its brutal attack on Gazans.
The comments from Hamas came hours after the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, warned Iran-aligned Houthi rebels. Netanyahu said, “This morning, the Houthis fired a surface-to-surface missile from Yemen towards our country,” they should know by now; Netanyahu began a cabinet meeting, quoting, “We get a ‘heavy price’ for any attempted aggression. ”
The Houthis in Yemen said earlier on Sunday that they had fired a missile that targeted an area in central Israel. According to Houthi military spokesman Colonel Yahya Sarea, the missile is a hypersonic ballistic of a new type; it has covered a distance of 2040 km in 11 and a half minutes.
Israel’s military claimed that a missile hit an open ground and caused no casualties; accordingly, the alarm for attack alerts was sounded in Tel Aviv and adjacent areas, and citizens of Israel went to shelters.
Since the start of the Gaza war, which Hamas initiated in mid-October 2023, the Houthis have increased their missile attacks on Israel in support of the Palestinians. Earlier Tuesday, Houthis had not localized their missiles close to Israeli airspace, with the only reported incident being in March near Israel’s Red Sea port of Eilat. Apart from the missile attacks, the Houthis have also used drones – an incident in July led to human losses, thus triggering the Israeli attacks on Houthi’s military objectives.
