Hamas to Respond to Israel’s Ceasefire Plan in Egypt Talks.
Progress in diplomatic efforts to broker a Gaza truce inched forward, as Hamas readies to respond to Israel’s proposal in key discussions. A senior official said a delegation led by Khalil al-Hayya will meet Egyptian intelligence officials on Monday.
Mediator Egypt had sent representatives to Israel earlier to restart stalled negotiations amid ongoing hostilities. Countries like Egypt, Qatar and the US have unsuccessfully tried securing a durable ceasefire since November’s temporary one-week halt.
Reports indicate Israel’s latest offer includes discussing “sustainable calm” post-hostage releases. This is the first time Israeli leadership has hinted at ending the nearly seven-month conflict.
Another Hamas source close to negotiations said the group will study the plan “positively,” keen to conclude an accord ensuring “permanent ceasefire, return of displaced, fair detainee swap and blockade’s termination.”
However, difficulties persist, given past proposals’ failure to materialize. All sides remain committed to exhaustive diplomatic activity, though challenges of rebuilding trust also linger after prolonged violence.
International monitors hope the latest talks help bridge gaps, resulting in concrete steps that can finally silence guns in Gaza’s humanitarian crisis and stabilize the volatile situation.
