But whether he would be formally included in the Indian Test team before the series commenced on June 20, it is yet to be seen,” the sources, privy to the development, informed IANS.
It is known that India ‘A’ team members who are not part of the regular Test team or have not secured a county contract yet may be in transit to fly back home on Tuesday. In England, Rana finally received an opportunity to play in the first game against England Lions at Canterbury, where he came back with 1-99 and scored 16 runs.
Rana featured in his Test debut during the tour of Australia last year, where he took only four wickets at a rate of 50.75, with best match figures of 3-48 in Perth. He did not feature in the forthcoming five-match series against England as the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel chose Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna to provide cover for the fast-bowling unit along with Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.
In all, the Rana based in New Delhi has a 13 first-class cricket average of 27.79 with the ball with 48 wickets. With the bat, he has an average of 32.80, including a century and two half-centuries.
India, led by Shubman Gill, is looking to win a Test series in England since 2007. The five-match Test series at Headingley, Edgbaston, Lord’s, Old Trafford, and The Oval will be India’s inaugural assignment in the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle as well.
