Hezbollah rains rockets on Israel, Iran denies blast

A year after the Hamas attack on Israel triggered the Gaza war, Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets at Israel’s third-largest city, Haifa, as the Jewish country poised to expand its offensive into Lebanon on Monday.

Israeli first anniversary ceremonies and protests coincided with this attack as the country held ceremonies and protests to mark the first anniversary of the October 7 attack as the Gaza conflict has spread across West Asia and raised fears of a regional war.

Amid rising tensions in the region, reports about an explosion near Iran’s Isfahan began circulating.

However, Ynet reported that Iranian officials from the Khatam al-Anbiya Air Defense Base denied reports of explosions in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Tomorrow will mark a year since Hezbollah brought the region into a multi-front war and has been constantly rocketing Israeli civilians. Less than an hour before October 8, Hezbollah launched several projectiles toward central Israel, said the Israeli Defence Forces in a post on X.

Iran-backed Hezbollah, the ally of the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Gaza, said it hit a military base south of Haifa with “Fadi 1” missiles and also carried out another attack at Tiberias, 65 kilometers away.

The armed group later claimed that the strikes it had made were against areas north of Haifa with missiles.

About 190 projectiles entered Israeli territory on Monday, Israel’s military said.

At least 12 were injured. Israel’s military said the air force was conducting massive bombardments of Hezbollah targets in south Lebanon, and two Israeli soldiers were killed, bringing the Israeli military death toll inside Lebanon to 11.

Meanwhile, some 2,000 Lebanese have been killed since Hezbollah started firing at Israel a year ago in sympathy with Hamas.
