The Hezbollah deputy warns Israel of ‘ground confrontation’, Hamas leader killed.
Hezbollah Deputy Secretary General Naim Qassem has warned Israel of a strong confrontation if it undertakes a ground invasion of Lebanon.
Addressing the media for the first time since the assassination of Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah, Qassem said the Iran-backed group is ready to face any possibility, including a land engagement.
In continued strikes over the past fortnight, Israel has intensified attacks on targets in Lebanon. This has raised fears of a potential ground operation by Israeli forces across the border.
In other incidents, Hamas confirmed Israel’s air raids killed its commander Fateh Sherif Abu el-Amin in a refugee camp in the southern Lebanese city of Tyre along with his family members.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine also accused Israel of striking an apartment building in Beirut’s Kola area, killing three of its leaders – the first such attack within the city limits.
As tensions escalate across multiple fronts, Iran has warned of reciprocal measures against Israeli “criminal acts” like the killing of Nasrallah and an Iranian Guards deputy.
The offensive has impacted Lebanon with over 1,000 deaths so far according to official figures. Citizens fear further escalation amid the unabated attacks on militant camps and bases.
